Package & Purchasing FAQ
I’m confused…
The train runs Wednesdays and Saturdays in July and August, but the tours are only on Saturdays?
Right.
So, what can I do on Wednesday, if I take the train to your area?
1000 Acres Ranch Resort
You may take the Corinth train to 1,000 Acres Ranch Resort for a barbecue and some activities. No need to pre-register on Wednesday.
Thurman Station
Continue past the ranch to Thurman Station Farmers’ Market where you may browse among the vendors of local produce, maple goods, and Adirondack crafts such as stained glass stepping stones, hand-stitched greeting cards, homemade soaps, lotions and candles, wooden crafts, paper bead jewelry, baked goods, quilted items and more. Wander across the street to Adirondack Ambiance to see rustic furniture and uniquely framed acrylic paintings of local scenes.
Can I visit the ranch, farmers’ market and Adirondack Ambiance even if I don’t ride the train?
You bet. The ranch is open for business all summer, and the market is open every Wednesday, June to mid-October, 12:30 – 5 p.m., with special events on many days. (www.persisgranger.com/Thurman_Station_Farmers_Market.htm)
Okay, but I’m really confused about Saturdays and tours and stuff. I have to register and prepay for Saturday’s events, right?
The general rule is yes. You must prepay by Friday noon in order for tour hosts to order enough meals and van space. Also, to buy the golf package or horseback riding package at 1000 Acres, you need to pre-pay online. Some activities at 1000 Acres may not require pre-payment.
So how do I do that?
Go to the appropriate ordering page. You’ll be allowed to select the dates and number of people participating, and pay either with your own PayPal account (if you have one) or with your credit card. It’s easy and safe on our secure server.
Okay, I’m going to do that. Where do I pick up my tour tickets?
There are no “tickets” per se. You must print out the order confirmation sent to you by PayPal when you order online. This is proof that you have paid, and our guide also will have a record of that purchase, with the same order number. DON’T FORGET to carry it with you to the tour.
What about train tickets? Are they part of the packages?
No. The tour packages include van transportation (where applicable), activities and lunch. You must buy the train ticket separately through Upper Hudson River Railroad, either when you board or by clicking a link on our site that allows you to buy a ticket ahead of time.
When must I register and pay?
The sooner the better, but definitely by noon on Friday before the day you plan to tour.
Okay, suppose I forget to register?
You may go to the departure site at or a little before the appointed time to see if there is room. The host will make every effort to accommodate you, but you run the risk of being turned away if the van is full.
Are these tours just for people riding the train?
Absolutely not. The Adirondack Foothill Tours are open to anyone interested. They leave from the train stops shortly after the train arrives in order to accommodate passengers who want to tour, but ANYBODY may tour, simply by obtaining a prepaid registration online and arriving at that site at the appointed time. Come by train, car or camel caravan. All with registrations will be warmly welcomed.
Do the tours have special prices for special ages of passengers?
No, we’re sorry that we cannot offer discounted tours for children or seniors. (There are discounted train tickets, however. See the link on our ordering page. )
So anybody can sign up for the tours?
Yes – the more, the merrier. But sign up before noon on Friday to be safe.
What if I have to cancel?
You must cancel before noon on Friday or your money will not be refunded. Thanks for understanding.
It’s been great reading your notes, but I need help from a live person. Can you help?
Our volunteers are moving targets, so email works best: toursales@hotmail.com
You may phone 518-623-9595. An effort will be made to answer or return your call.
